Media And Marketing Execs Raise Record Amount For Annual Cancer Benefit


PMX Chairman John Muszynski chaired the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Benefit on Thursday evening at New York City’s Lighthouse at Pier 61. The honoree was his wife Gail, a cancer survivor who the group cited for bravery, perseverance and dedication to wellness through her yoga practice which has helped others going through cancer.    

CBS Lead Sideline Reporter & Host Tracy Wolfson emceed the event, with hockey great and current commentator Eddie Olczyk serving as the keynote speaker. The evening was highlighted by a panel of coaches and former athletes who gave perspectives on leadership on and off the court. The panel included Olczyk, Iona Men’s Basketball Head Coach Tobin Anderson, and Katie Arcuri, Interim Director of Athletics at St. Pater’s University.

They were joined by about 350 guests representing more than 32 companies, including event sponsors Fox, Paramount, Publicis Groupe and Warner Bros. Discovery, to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.   

The dinner was hosted by the Coaches vs. Cancer Executive Committee which includes Jon Diament, executive vice president, advertising sales Warner Bros. Discovery; John Bogusz EVP, CBS Sports Sales Paramount Advertising; Tom McGovern President & Managing Director Optimum Sports, and former Dentsu and Interpublic media executive Tim Spengler who now runs Market Equilibrium LLC., a media and marketing consultancy focused on sports and entertainment.  

 Now in its 12th year, the event has raised more than $3 million to support the American Cancer Society. Thursday’s dinner raised $375,000, a record for the event.  

“John and Gail embody the spirit of the American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer work and are true leaders in helping us spread the word of our lifesaving mission," said Chloe Lipman, vice president of community development, American Cancer Society. "We recognize them both for their commitment and dedication in raising funds and awareness to help us with our vision to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.“
