Media Firm Ordered To Remove Birthdates And Addresses Of Voters From Sites

A media firm reportedly owned by conservative radio host Dan Proft will remove personal data on thousands of voters from its sites.

Local Government Information Inc. agreed to eliminate birthdates, addresses and whether the person voted in the 2020 presidential election, a detail it had on some voters, according to the Rockford Register Star.

The firm has been sued by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul for allegedly putting Illinois voters at risk of identity theft and other harms, according to the Star.

The company, which says it is a media watchdog, had until Monday afternoon to remove the information, the Star writes.

The data had not been provided by the State Board of Elections, the Star continues. However, political committees can purchase the voter data file for bona fide political purchases, although birthdates were not provided after 2018.

The Star reports that the media group operates more than 20 websites in Illinois and 12 print publications, including Rockford Sun, Sangamon Sun, Peoria Standard, Galesburg Reporter and NW Illinois News.
