Publisher Assumes Ownership Of 'The Daily Gazette'

The Daily Gazette, of Schenectady, New York, has been acquired by publisher John DeAugustine.

With this transfer, the newspaper leaves the Hume-Lind family, which has owned it for 130 years.

Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

DeAugustine has been publisher of the Daily Gazette since 2013, following more than 20 years at Hearst. He has also acquired such family-owned newspapers as the Amsterdam Recorder, The Leader-Herald, Nippertown, The Daily Mail, and Register Star, ABC’s News10 reports.

“We all truly appreciate how much John and his family have done for the paper over the years, and we know they are committed to its future success and will continue to provide independent local news backed by the highest journalistic standards and integrity,” says Betsie Hume-Lind, board president of The Daily Gazette.
