Continuing its mobile expansion, USA Today has introduced an app for the Kindle Fire. The newspaper publisher said the new app is specifically tailored to the Amazon tablet, which the online retailer has said was its best-selling item over the holidays. Analysts have projected the company would sell 5 million Kindle Fire units in the fourth quarter of 2011. Volkswagen is on board as launch sponsor of USA Today’s free Kindle Fire app, which emphasizes features like photo galleries to take advantage of the device’s 7-inch screen. To date, the publisher says USA Today apps have been downloaded more than 10 million times on mobile devices running on major platforms, including Android, iOS and Windows Phone. --Mark Walsh
