Marlboro Man Darrell Winfield Has Died At 85

One wonders what it must have been like as a female working at Leo Burnett during the agency's cigarette heyday and catching a glimpse of the various Marlboro Men that graced that brand's campaigns over the years. I mean was it like today's bubble-headed bimbo teenagers losing it when that Calvin Klein Justin Bieber ad came out? Hmm.

Well, maybe this is a sad day for those ladies. One of the last of the Marlboro Men has died. Darrell Hugh Winfield was 85. He died Monday at his home in Riverton, Davis Funeral Home said.

Winfield's was the face of Marlboro cigarettes in magazine and television ads from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. The agency discovered Winfield in 1968 while he was working on the Quarter Circle 5 Ranch in western Wyoming. Winfield was born on July 30, 1929, in Little Kansas, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, son, five daughters and several grandchildren.
