Cable giant Comcast is planning to add Amazon Prime Video to its X1 platform this year, the company says.
The deal marks the first time that Amazon Prime Video will be available through a cable set-top box, and makes X1 the only cable platform that integrates Amazon, Netflix and YouTube into its channel lineup.
In a webinar earlier this year, comScore executives said that cable and satellite customers prevented a “vast opportunity” to streamers.
ComScore estimated that there are 28 million households that pay for TV, but don’t yet stream OTT. It is those 28 million homes that Amazon and Netflix are pursuing as they strike deals with cable companies like Comcast.
