Wiener, Hofstetter Depart Comscore: Move Follows New Board Members, Strategic Direction

Bryan Wiener and Sarah Hofstetter have resigned as CEO and President, respectively, of media and marketing research firm Comscore.

The move comes nearly a year after Wiener left as founder and CEO of 360i to join Comscore, and just months after 360i cofounder Hofstetter followed him to Comscore.

Their resignations follow a restructuring of Comscore’s board to include three long-time advertising and media industry executives, including former GroupM global CEO Irwin Gotlieb, long-time digital marketing executive Joanne Bradford (formerly Yahoo, Microsoft and BusinessWeek, and currently CMO of Social Finance Inc.), and former MRI President-CEO Kathi Love.

In a statement, Wiener cited “irreconcilable differences” with Comscore’s board and its strategic direction, and Hofstetter made a similar statement supporting Wiener as part of her decision to leave.

Comscore named Dale Fuller interim CEO and the board said it has begun a search to identify a permanent successor, and that it would consider both external and internal candidates.

Fuller has served as a Comscore board director since March 2018 and as chair of Comscore's audit committee since April.

Why can't the Research Business get a grip.

This breaking news comes on the 55th Anniversary
of the Media Rating Council's (MRC's) release of its
first Minimum Standards for Ratings Research.

The sad irony is that Minimum Standard problems abound.
Clearly, the Comscore situation is a matter of Accounting and more gone awry.

Neither Nielsen nor Comscore have done much to raise confidenceĀ
in media and marketing research at a time when it is needed most.
