The Philadelphia Inquirer’s print schedule was disrupted by activity that caused the publication to take some computer systems offline, according to a story published on Saturday by the Inquirer.

Online publication was not affected by the disruption, the story notes. 

Sunday’s early edition, which was composed Friday night and does not include later news, is being distributed to home-delivery customers.  

In the interim, the Inquirer will “continue to provide Philly and the region with the latest news at Inquirer.com, and on our e-Edition,” says Elizabeth H. Hughes, Inquirer Publisher and CEO.

The nature of the incident is unclear. But Hughes states that “recently discovered anomalous activity on select computer systems and immediately took those systems offline.”

The Inquirer is working with the Kroll computer-forensics firm “to restore systems and fully investigate the matter,” Hughes says. 

Hughes adds, “Our investigation into this matter is ongoing, and we will keep our employees and readers informed as we learn more.”
