Alaska's GCI Is Killing Its Email Service

Alaska telecom GCI is phrasing out its email service, a move that will force users to find new providers in 2024.

The news apparently was posted ahead of schedule. Handyside reports that a draft fact page was prematurely posted online, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

The company says it will give customers six months’ notice.

“Our intent is to provide customers with as much time as possible to successfully transfer their data and get settled on a new platform,” a GCI spokesperson told the Anchorage Daily News.

The impact on marketers should be minimal given the small numbers and the fact that many consumers will transition off the service.

GCI has offered an email service since the mid-1990s.
