Columbia Journalism School Opens Loan Relief Application Process

Columbia Journalism School (CJS) has rolled out a program that it says will help graduates who work in local nonprofit media with their student loans.

The school opened the application process on August 1, and will continue it through October 15.

“Our pilot Loan Repayment Assistance Program — the first of its kind in the journalism industry — will help support recent CJS graduates who bring their talent and skills to nonprofit news media organizations,” CJS says on its website of the program announced in May.

It adds, “CJS may lend up to $50,000 over five years to help you make your loan payments, and then forgive that loan.”

According to NiemanLab, the program covers alumni who have graduated between 2019 and 2023.
