Survey: 40% Still Wrapping Up Holiday Shopping

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow?  

A survey out this week from Harris Poll and Retail Brew finds that 40% of this season’s holiday shoppers are down with that procrastinating sentiment and still hadn’t bought something for all or most of the people on their gift giving lists.  

What are they shopping for? Clothes and accessories mostly (60%), followed by gift cards (58%), toys (44%), personal care and beauty items (38%), electronics (37%), books, video games and media (36%), and food and beverages (35%).

Looks like they’re going to have a very busy “Super Saturday” (Dec. 23), expected to be a hectic last minute shopping day.  

Procrastinators said they rely heavily on retailers’ websites (63%), direct marketing from brands (43%) and social media (31%) for gifting ideas.

Overall this season, 19% said they exclusively shopped online, and 8% only shopped in stores.  

The survey of 2,120 US adults was conducted between December 15 and 17, Of those polled 1,718 reported shopping for gifts this holiday season.
