Three Top News Executives Leave Gannett

Three high-level news executives are leaving Gannet for apparently different reasons.

According to Poynter, which broke the story, the executives are:

  • Rachel Lobdell, whose position as deputy to chief content officer Kristin Roberts will be eliminated
  • Cynthia Benjamin, senior director of news learning, who planned to retire after 36 years at Gannet papers and corporate jobs but was told the date was earlier
  • Manny Garcia, who resigned as executive editor of the Austin American-Statesman to become editor-in-chief of nonprofit startup Houston Landing

A Gannett spokesperson confirmed that the Poynter story is accurate.
