G/O Media Sells 'The Onion' To A Chicago-Based Company

G/O Media, which has been seeking a buyer for its satirical publication The Onion, has found one: Global Tetrahedron,” a Chicago firm, according to published reports. 

The firm plans to retain The Onion’s staff and maintain its operations in Chicago.

Global Tetrahedron is the name of a fictional company depicted in a 1999 book by the Onion staff. The company is owned by Jeff Lawson, a co-founder and former chief executive of Twilio, a technology and marketing communications company 

“The Onion for over 35 years has been an indispensable part of our country’s cultural fabric with its unique brand of satire and comedy that continues to be just as important and relevant today than at any time during its storied history,” Jim Spanfeller, chief executive at G/O Media wrote in an email to the staff.
