Magazine publishers that use the MAZ digital publishing platform are gaining access to more detailed usage data for their apps, including time
spent per page, tap-through rates of links and multimedia and aggregate metrics, like total number of app and content sessions.
The new usage data are being offered as part of MAZ
3.0, a new version of the platform, which incorporates the analytics and reporting tool, Maz Stats, into its digital dashboard. Maz Stats is specifically designed for publishers creating content for
tablets and mobile devices.
It includes the five main tablet metrics recommended by the MPA – The Association of Magazine Media. It also allows publishers to break out sharing data
by social media channel and see which actual pieces of content are being shared socially using MAZ’s Clippings feature.
MAZ Founder and CEO Paul Canetti stated: “The
insights MAZ now provides will inspire more experimentation and eventually will generate new revenue streams as advertisers demand more granular metrics for digital content. Instead of shooting in the
dark, publishers can actually know what is working and what is not.”
MAZ also announced that it is expanding to other platforms with MAZ 3.0, including products for iPhone,
Android smartphones and tablets, as well as the Amazon Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD.
GrindMedia Goes Digital First

magazine owner GrindMedia is shifting to a “digital-first” publication strategy, according to Folio. The new strategy entails replacing its print magazine with a free digital
edition, along with a print replica of the digital editions that will be published bimonthly. The shift will allow GrindMedia to emphasize digital content appealing to a younger audience, including
short-form video. The new publication schedule takes effect with Skateboarder April-May issue.
Northrop To EIC, Sunset

Northrop has been named editor-in-chief of Sunset, Time Inc. announced this week. Northrop’s appointment is effective April 22. This is Northrop’s second stint at Time Inc., having earlier
served as deputy editor of Real Simple. More recently, over the past year Northrop has served as a consultant for several companies on digital media launches, including BermanBraun. Before
that, she served as global editor-in-chief for Reader’s Digest from 2007-2011.
Rowley To VP, Video Production For
Meredith
Laura Rowley is joining Meredith Corp.’s National Media Group as vice president for video production and product. In her new role she will be responsible for
overseeing Meredith’s digital video operations across its entire brand portfolio, including Better Homes and Gardens, Parents and Fitness, with a focus on original content
creation and increasing consumer engagement. Rowley previously served as executive producer for original video and partnerships at The Huffington Post, where she worked on the development and
financing of original lifestyle series including Tastemakers, which examines influential chefs, and United States of Style, a fashion-focused road tour.
Turnbull Named Managing Director, New Business and Marketing, MXM Mobile

director for new business and marketing at MXM Mobile, its mobile practice. In his new role, Turnbull is responsible for leading new mobile business and marketing initiatives and maintaining and
growing key accounts. Prior to joining MXM, Matt was president of Tigerspike, where he was responsible for setting up the company’s North American operations.

for digital strategy and initiatives at the MPA – The Association of Magazine Media. In this role, Grey will continue his efforts to drive digital publishing and content standards, and to
further strategic partnerships with OEMs and service providers to gain their input on industry-wide platform decisions and new business initiatives. Grey joined MPA in 2012 as vice-president for
digital. Before that, he led the Entertainment and Media division of Übermind (now Deloitte Digital).
