Brian Monahan, managing partner at Interpublic Group’s Magna Global, has been named vice president of marketing for Walmart.com, the retailer
confirmed Tuesday. The appointment is effective May 28.
Monahan will lead overall brand strategy and cross-channel marketing for Walmart.com and reports to Joel Anderson, president and CEO
of Walmart.com U.S.
Anderson cited Monahan’s “industry leadership in advertising technology and insights.” His experience “will help Walmart seize the opportunity
to deliver anytime, anywhere shopping experiences to the Walmart customer.”
As managing partner heading Magna’s Intelligence Practice, Monahan led forecasting, insights and
negotiation strategy across all media channels for IPG clients. He is credited with securing key partnerships with AOL, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo.
Before taking on the
Magna role, Monahan managed the IPG Media Lab. Earlier, he was with IPG media shop UM.
Regarding his new role, Monahan stated: “There’s simply no other brand with such a pace of
innovation, scale of consumer touchpoints, and ROI visibility to enable groundbreaking marketing."
Based in Silicon Valley, Walmart Global eCommerce oversees all e-commerce for Walmart, in
the U.S. and globally. It operates ten e-commerce sites around the world, including Walmart.com in the U.S., and sites in China, Brazil and the UK. Its technology group, @WalmartLabs, is a hub of
innovation for the business.
