Schiller Exits Twitter, Company To Reorganize

Vivian Schiller, head of news and journalism partnerships at Twitter, is moving on after less than a year on the job. Formerly chief digital officer for NBC News, Schiller’s appointment was expected to strengthen ties between Twitter and the broader news industry.

“Stepping down from Twitter so new global media lead [Katie Jacobs Stanton] can reorganize as she sees fit,’” Schiller tweeted on Wednesday.

This summer, Stanton became Twitter’s first global media chief. She had previously served as vice president of international market development for the microblogging giant.

Schiller’s departure is just latest in a series of management shifts at Twitter. Chloe Sladden resigned as head of media at Twitter, earlier this year -- not long after COO Ali Rowghani and CFO Mike Gupta both left the company.

Despite surging ad revenue and better-than-expect user growth, some Twitter watchers don’t like the way the company is being managed. Venture capitalist Peter Thiel recently made headlines after calling Twitter “a horribly mismanaged company” -- and with “probably a lot of pot-smoking going on there.”

That said, “It's such a solid franchise, it may even work with all that,” the early Facebook investor said during a televised “Squawk Box” interview last month.

Among other media efforts, Twitter continues to encourage TV networks and studios to promote their shows among its community. To that end, the company just released an internal study, which found that networks and studios that live-tweet during programming can significantly increase followers and mentions on Twitter.

Adam Sharp, head of Twitter’s government unit, will now oversee both news government partnerships.
