AdRoll, one of the largest retargeting firms in the digital ad industry, announced late Wednesday the opening of a new office in Tokyo, Japan.
Makoto Arima has been appointed VP and chairman of AdRoll Japan, and Luciano Kohmura has been tapped as managing director, AdRoll Japan. The company plans to have a team of over 25 in Japan by the end of 2015.
Arima was formerly Google Japan’s managing director, a position he held for Yahoo prior to that. Kohmura also joins AdRoll from Google, where he most recently served as new product sales director across Japan, Australia and New Zealand, per a release.
Aaron Bell, CEO of AdRoll, declined to disclose how much money AdRoll is currently seeing come from Japan, but did tell Real-Time Daily that AdRoll is entering Japan with 13 agency partnerships already secured.
Partners include CyberAgent, OPT, Septeni, iRep, TransCosmos, Vixia, Microad Plus, Adways, United, Cyber Consultant, GMO Nikko, CCI and DAC.
“We’re excited about how our business is progressing in Japan,” Bell said. “We’re going at a measured pace to ensure our early customer’s success before we open up the floodgates.”
All of AdRoll’s services will be available to Japanese clients at launch, however, including both mobile and desktop retargeting.
“The market for mobile advertising in Japan is big, with almost one-third of all digital spend happening on mobile devices,” asserted Bell. “That said, today we believe mobile to be the key to success in any market.”
