Richard Beckman is leaving Vice Media after nearly one year with company. Beckman joined Vice Media last May as the company’s first Chief Revenue Officer. He oversaw advertising sales and reported to company co-president Andrew Creighton.

According to the New York Post, Vice has not chosen a replacement yet.

While WWD suggests that Beckman’s management style clashed with Vice’s male millennial-focused culture, the NYP reports that Beckman wants to explore running his own company again.

“It’s been a remarkable year, but my entrepreneurial skills beckoned. I wanted the opportunity to focus on all my skills running something rather than just my sales and marketing skills,” Beckman told the NYP.

Beckman joined Vice just as the company began preparing its push into cable TV with its new channel, Viceland. He was one of Vice’s biggest hires  - Beckman is a veteran publishing executive with nearly two decades of experience at Condé Nast.

Beckman hired a team that was able to bring on advertisers like Unilever, Bank of America, Samsung and Toyota for Viceland's February launch.

According to the NYP, a senior team will continue to handle brand partnerships at Vice, running more native advertising and less traditional ads than what typically airs on cable.

Beckman served a long career at Condé Nast, holding the roles of publisher of Vogue, president of Condé Nast Media Group and later served as CEO at Fairchild Fashion Media, which he left in 2010 after a year. He  later served as CEO of Prometheus Global Media (then e5 Global Media), owner of Adweek, The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard. He exited that company after two years.

Beckman then launched entertainment company Three Lions Entertainment. In 2014, the production firm was caught up in a lawsuit with CBS. The company claimed that Three Lions never paid the network the $2.5 million it owed for airing “Fashion Rocks,” a TV special produced by Three Lions, breaching their contract.

The case was disposed in September 2015.
