Gmail is providing a new unsubscribe feature for email users. And it may not be good for email marketers with poor open rates.   

The feature, which apparently has not been formally launched, consists of an “Inbox Tip” card. It asks consumers if they want to unsubscribe from mailing lists to which they have not responded in a month.

For example, it asks, “Unsubscribe from XDA.com Developers Depot? You haven’t opened any emails from this sender in the last month,” according to Android Police. 

“The user is given two choices: “Unsubscribe” and “No thanks. 

Digital Tends reports that the function “only seems to work on emails that Google is able to flag as promotions, so you’ll still need to keep an eye on your inbox.”

The new unsubscribe feature is not yet available to all Gmail users, reports state.  

“We aren't sure exactly when this started rolling out, but it appears to be new,” Android Police writes. 

9to5Google confirms that the timing is uncertain.

“As far as when Google introduced this feature, we can only guess,” writes Justin Duino. “It appears as though more users are starting to see similar cards in Inbox so be on the lookout for it on your devices. Google hasn’t announced this as a new feature, so hopefully, it’s just the first of many new changes to come.”
