States Newsroom, a network of state-based nonprofit news outlets, has launched the North Dakota Monitor, its 39^th news site. 

Thanks, in part, to the addition of eight content-sharing agreements, the group is headed toward having a presence in all 50 states by the middle of 2024. 

Amy Dalrymple will serve as the Monitor’s editor in chief. Previously, Dalrymple was editor of The Bismarck Tribune, and has also reported for Forum News Service, covering North Dakota’s oil boom and other stories, and wrote for The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead. 

Also leading the Monitor team will Jeff Beach, deputy editor, who has spent the bulk of his 30-year career working in North Dakota. Beach has been a reporter for Agweek and editor for Forum News Service. 

Mary Steurer will be a reporter. Steurer has covered local government for the Casper Star-Tribune. While there. 

“We are excited to close out 2023 by addressing the growing issue of news deserts in North Dakota,” said Chris Fitzsimon, director and publisher of States Newsroom. “Our goal is to make the North Dakota Monitor the go-to source for how decisions are being made by government officials in Bismarck and around the state.”
