Threads API Coming In June, Runs Post-Scheduling In Live Tests

Threads partnered with some third-party platforms to test post-scheduling capabilities through an API.

The plan is to add more features in the near future such as the ability for moderators to reply, as well as analytics for select third-party partners. Both are part of the pilot.

Post scheduling on Threads allows brands and publishers to more easily manage their presence on the app. Analytics provides businesses with insights into Threads engagement.

Jesse Chen, an engineer at Instagram working on Threads, wrote in a post that the company has been building the "Threads API to enable creators, developers and brands to manage their Threads presence at scale and easily share fresh, new ideas with their communities from their favorite third-party applications."

Today, the API enables users to authenticate, publish threads, and fetch the content posted through these tools, but soon the company will enable reply moderation and insights capabilities.

The Threads test is limited to a small number of partners as well s a few independent developers, but the plan is to make the API available more broadly by the end of June.

Last October, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said the team would develop an API, although acknowledging that an API would result in more publisher content on Threads instead of user-created posts.
