Planters, Walmart Beef, French's Fried Onions Announce Recalls

Time to check the cabinet and the refrigerator: if you have Planters nuts, French’s Fried Onions or Walmart beef, you might want to pitch or return it.

Hormel Foods is recalling two types of Planters nuts due to the potential for contamination with the germ listeria. Affected are certain Planters honey roasted peanuts and Planters mixed nuts shipped to Publix supermarket warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina, and to Dollar Tree warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia.

While there have been no reports of illnesses, the products “are being recalled out of an abundance of caution” because they could be tainted with listeria, which can cause serious, sometimes fatal, infections in certain individuals, Hormel Foods said in an announcement last week, according to NBC News.

Meanwhile, over 16,000 pounds of ground beef produced by Cargill Meat Solutions and sold at Walmart has been recalled over E. coli risk.

The contaminated beef was produced April 26-27 and distributed to Walmart stores throughout the eastern U.S., according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“The ground beef has been sold at Walmart locations in Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont and New York,” according to NPR

Finally, McCormick & Company, Inc. has voluntarily recalled a batch of French's Original Crispy Fried Onions due to the potential growth of Staphylococcus aureus (Staph), according to Yahoo News. The recall was initiated on March 18 and reported by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) on May 2.
