The Orange County Register reports it is launching an online paywall. Readers who want to browse the newspaper online must buy a subscription or pay a daily rate to have access to the site. Some content remains free, such as weather, traffic, calendar events and headlines of news stories. After a free, seven-day trial, the paper will charge nonsubscribers one price to access the Register, be it print or digital version, regardless of device. The Washington Post and San Francisco Chronicle also announced paywalls last week.
