As expected, President Donald Trump has named ousted Fox News chief Bill Shine the White House’s new communications chief. He seems to be somewhat more elevated than the person who preceded him.

The President said Shine is joining the White House staff as Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications.

Shine effectively fills a role that has undergone some of the greatest churn in the Trump Administration.

The role, which as been vacant since Hope Hicks -- the longest-lasting one (225 days) -- stepped down as White House Communications Director on March 29.

Hicks succeeded Anthony Scaramucci, who lasted 10 days on the job.

Scaramucci succeeded Acting Communications Director Sean Spicer (49 days in that role), who succeeded Mike Dubke (88 days), who succeeded Spicer’s first appointment (45 days).

Shine, a longtime Fox News executive and producer, was ousted in May 2017, following a number of allegations of sexual harassment and racial discrimination at Fox News.

Shine, who was a protege of Fox News founder Roger Ailes, was one of two executives named to succeed him as co-president when Ailes died.
