Mets Give Opening Day An Emotional Twist

The Mets' 2024 baseball season opens March 28.

To build excite for its ongoing “Baseball Hits Different Here” tagline, a new campaign centers on this year's debut.

And the twist is a play on FOMO: “Fear of Missing Opening Day.” The promotional push, which includes digital, social and TV, will run across local New York TV stations in local team broadcasts.

The creative is courtesy of the Mets in-house creative and production team.

“This is the first time opening the season at home (with fans) since 2018, so we wanted to lean into the excitement of baseball being back at Citi Field and remind fans that the experience we bring in our ballpark is unmatched,” Andy Goldberg, Mets executive vice president-CMO, told Out to Launch. “That is why fans have to be here.”

The Mets have also been creative with promotional giveaways for the first 15,000 fans at Citi Field.

This season, 19 of their 81 home games have unique items, including a bonus for Harry Potter fans: Hogwarts house scarves. Four different colors scarves, representing the different houses in the magical book series, will be available April 27, when the Mets play the Cardinals.

Other givewaways include a Brandon Nimmo bobblehead on July 12, when the Mets play the Rockies, as well as a pickleball paddle on July 25.

This season, Saturday home games between March 28 and May 25 will begin at 1:40 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. for the rest of the Saturdays.

Tickets can be purchases online at Mets.com/Tickets.
