QSRs Roll Out The Green Carpet With 4/20 Specials

Who’s got the munchies? Otherwise known as 4/20, the unofficial holiday of pot smoking culture, this April 20 several QSRs have the arena covered with deals on tacos, chicken, desserts and more.

Popeyes has launched a “Munchies Menu” along with a specific 4/20 promotion. Now through the holiday, customers who order off the Munchies Menu will receive a Chicken Sandwich (Classic, Spicy, Blackened or Spicy Blackened)for $4.20. The deal and Munchies Menu are only available through the website or Popeye’s app for pickup or delivery.

Chronic Tacos is celebrating 4/20 with the grand opening of its latest location in Redondo Beach, California. The day’s events include 15% off all items, free tacos and giveaways of concert tickets, among other prizes. All other locations will also offer $4.20 off any order of $20 for loyalty members through the chain’s app on 4/20.

“We love to reward our loyalty members any chance we get, especially when it ties into one of our favorite holidays,” Mike Mohammad, CEO of Chronic Tacos, told Marketing Daily. “This day has always been a part of our culture at Chronic Tacos; our first location in Newport Beach had a plaque that read ‘It’s always 420.’”

Wingstop has launched its own line of THC -- but it doesn’t refer to tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. This THC (which contains no actual marijuana or derivatives) stands for The Hot Chili, describing a new chicken wing rub, only available today through April 21. The chain is also offering for a limited time the Wingstop Hot Box (referring to a method of marijuana ingestion involving a car with closed windows), containing a chicken sandwich, eight piece classic or boneless wings or 3-piece tenders, ranch fries and a drink.

Wingstop is promoting its THC and the Hotbox through social posts and video, seen here, which teases viewers to “hit it while you can.”

Wienerschnitzel is commemorating the day by giving away treats for stoners with a sweet tooth. Customers on April 20 can receive a free Brownie Shake with a digital certificate available only on Wienerschnitzel.com. The chain is quick to point out the desserts contain “not those kind of brownies,” or actual marijuana.

"Our new brownie shakes are the perfect way to satisfy your cravings while celebrating 4/20," said Doug Koegeboehn, Wienerschnitzel's CMO, in a release. "We always strive to be right alongside our customers' wants and needs, and we know that special promotions like these continue to capture their attention. Don't let this offer go up in smoke!”
