Chevrolet Traverse Offers More Power, Off-Road Capability

Chevrolet has redesigned the 2024 Traverse mid-size SUV to offer more power than the previous models, including a 19% increase in torque.

Four distinct trims — LS, LT, Z71 and RS — offer unique design and greater content choices, with enhanced safety features and technologies across the lineup.

The LS starts at $37,600 and the LT starts at $40,000. The sporty RS starts at $54,200.

The Z71 off-road-capable model, which starts at $46,400, targets experience-seeking adventurers who are bringing the family and their gear along for the journey.

The vehicle features more than 1-inch increased ground clearance coupled with increased track width for added stability, handling and capability.  All-terrain tires bring increased capability coupled with 18-inch wheels designed exclusively for Z71.

The Traverse is not yet offered as an electric; instead, all all models are powered by a new 2.5L turbocharged engine that delivers 315 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque.

Chevrolet is offering the right mix of gas-powered and EV to meet customer needs, says Kelsi Haas, Chevrolet Traverse assistant advertising and marketing manager.

“Our feet have continued to be in both camps, across EV and ICE products,” Haas said recently at a media event. "There is serious demand on both sides of the wheelhouse and we are at a point this year where we are able to meet that demand.”

The capability of the Z71 is featured in a social effort featuring William Byron, a NASCAR racing driver who drives the Chevrolet Camaro. Haas is also featured in the creative, which broke May 3.

The Z71 and RS versions of the vehicle each target a different type of consumer. While the RS is sporty, it’s positioned as a family hauler and will attract a younger audience than the more expensive Z71, she says.

There are several new safety features, Haas says.

All Traverse trims come with an updated Buckle to Drive feature that requires the front-seat passenger, as well as the driver, to be buckled before driving. The Teen Driver Rear Seat Belt Reminder is also new, which alerts the driver if second or third row passengers have taken off their seat belt.

“So Traverse has historically been a family hauler,” Haas says. “This next generation is going to continue to be just that and even more. But knowing that one of the reasons for purchase are because of its safety features, we wanted to make sure that this next generation continue to be as strong from a safety pillar as it has been historically.”
