  • BIZ DEV: Rita's Italian Ice Names Sigma Group As Media, Creative AOR
    Rita’s Italian Ice, a chain with more than 600 stores in 21 states, named New Jersey based Sigma Group as its agency of record. Sigma Group will handle strategic planning, branding, creative and promotional development, as well as media planning and buying services. Rita’s was founded in 1984 and recently opened its first International outlet in China with a store in Canada slated to open in 2014. Sigma Group will work with Duke Marketing, Rita’s public relations agency of record, to develop integrated promotions for Rita’s 30th anniversary, which takes place next year.
  • Three Agencies Vie For Spirit Airlines Account
    Walrus, The Richards Group and Barkley are the three remaining agencies competing for creative and media work on Spirit Airlines. The review began this summer and the winning agency will replace Siquis.
  • BIZ DEV: Comcast Conducts $1 B-plus Media Review
    Just two years after its last one, Comcast NBCU is conducting another media agency review according to sources. The media giant spends more than $1 billion annually on ads. Sources said the review is procurement driven and that pitches are being scheduled for the week before Christmas. The business is currently split between Publicis Groupe’s Starcom, MediaVest and WPP’s Maxus.
  • BIZ DEV: Ferrero Consolidates Glocal Media Work With Omnicom Group
    Ferrero has consolidated its global media planning and buying accounts with Omnicom Group, following a review. The shift takes effect in 2014. The group will then take charge of work in Australia, Russia, the U.K. and U.S. Ferrero’s most notable brands include Nutella, Ferrero Rocher, Tic Tac, Mon Chéri, Kinder Chocolate and Raffaello. The company spent $59 million in measured media in 2012 and $26 million between January and June of 2013, per Kantar Media.

    Ogilvy & Mather was awarded creative duties for the Comcast business account, following a review. Berlin Cameron previously handled the account. The agency bested Arnold, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and Leo Burnett for the win.

    Gyro Chicago was named business-to-business agency of record for Cars.com.
  • BIZ DEV: Fallon Drinks Up Woodford Reserve Work
    Fallon Minneapolis was named agency of record for Woodford Reserve bourbon, a brand under the Brown-Forman umbrella. Boxing Clever previously handled the work and will remain on the agency roster to handle sales promotions.

    Columbus-based Resource was named agency of record for Sun Products’ Wisk laundry detergent and digital agency of record for all and Snuggle brands, following a review.As AOR for Wisk, Resource will be responsible for marketing efforts across all platforms. In addition, the agency will oversee all and Snuggle’s digital marketing duties, including social media efforts.
