Streaming video service
Hulu and streaming music service Spotify are partnering to launch a single bundle that combines their two services, the companies announced Wednesday.
The bundle -- Spotify Premium, Now with Hulu -- launches today for $12.99 per month, and combines Spotify’s ad-free premium service with Hulu’s limited-commercial plan. There will be a three-month trial period for 99 cents.
The usual subscription for both services would cost consumers $18 per month.
The new offering expands a partnership between the two companies begun last year, which offered a Spotify-Hulu bundle for college students.
The deal marks one of the first instances that two complementary streaming services are bundling their product together, giving
consumers a discount and a single bill -- an example of the differentiated package that will become more necessary as competition heats up in the streaming video space.
Hulu advertisers will also gain exposure to Spotify Premium subscribers, who pay the premium price to remove ads from their music playlists.
