“Breaking up is hard to do.” It took the late singer-songwriter Neil Sedaka just one line to express that emotion.
You could say that a new Canadian commercial is more…thoughtful?…on the subject.
“I've been thinking about this for a while,” says a
woman in the :30 spot. “You know, you've been with me forever and you showed up when I needed you. You've kind of become part of who I am. But the daily frustrations have added up. It's time for
a change. I want to move through the day and be fully present when it matters most. So, yeah, no hard feelings.”
Then, the kicker. “It’s time to break up with your
glasses,” reads an onscreen graphic, as the woman concludes, “I need to see what's possible with Lasik MD.”

Founded 25 years ago, Lasik MD is Canada’s leading provider
of laser vision correction with more than 30 locations across the country.
The video, along with other ads, were created with the Curious Montreal agency and are aimed at Gen Z.
In
addition to humor, the spot taps into what Lasik MD calls Gen Z’s “focus on holistic wellness, framing vision correction as an empowering act of self-care.”
Besides the
commercial on YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime, the campaign includes highway billboards, contextual ads in gyms and restaurants, and content creators “sharing their own stories and daily
frustrations with eyewear.”
One static ad shows a woman adjusting her glasses while in a yoga position, with the headline, “Nothing to adjust but your pose.”
"We
wanted to create a campaign that mirrors real, everyday moments," Jessica Lukian Papineau, vice president of marketing, said in a statement.
There will also be an influencer event at a LASIK
MD Toronto location, the eye surgery provider said.
