General Motors former CMO Norm de Greve
announced on LinkedIn that he will leave the company in June.
De Greve, who joined GM in July 2023, transitioned to chief growth officer in November
after Lin-Hua Wu, previously chief communications officer, assumed the role of chief
communications and marketing officer.
He said he will be “moving on in June to pursue a new endeavor,” adding that more details will come “when the time is
right.”
Prior to his departure, de Greve had been active on the speaking circuit. He delivered a keynote at the ANA Masters of Marketing conference where he discussed
AI, creativity and adaptive marketing systems.

In January, he appeared on the CMO Podcast where he spoke about GM’s future, marketing transformation and EV
transition. He also joined the Frontier CMO Podcast discussing how to restructure agencies for the AI era.
Reflecting on his tenure, de Greve says he “could not be
prouder” of his team’s accomplishments, citing what he described as the largest and fastest marketing transformation in GM's history. He said every brand improved consideration and
achieved record sales, with Buick becoming the fastest-growing mainstream brand in the U.S. and Cadillac the fastest growing brand.
He also pointed to the development of an
AI-driven marketing platform now being rolled out across the country.
De Greve credited GM leadership — including CEO Mary Barra and President Mark Reuss — as well as
marketing and sales teams and agency partners.
“I may have been the catalyst, but the results are a reflection of the strength and dedication of the team,” he
says.
General Motors declined to comment in detail on the departure, thanking de Greve for “his significant contributions” and wishing him well in a statement provided
to Marketing Daily.
Meanwhile, Wu will gain additional direct reports, according to GM. Sigal Cordeiro, currently vice president of global planning and customer research,
will step into the role of vice president of global marketing and insights on June 1, reporting to Wu.
Also now reporting to Wu are Shenan Reed, chief media officer, and Laura
Thornton, executive director of customer engagement, both of whom previously reported to de Greve.
